A Lone Voice in the Darkness
Oct. 2nd, 2011 05:49 amWarning: Doctor Who rant ahead. Spoilers!
I wake up to much squeeing last night about the marvelous intelligence of Steven Moffat. Which made me realize that I am alone in my hatred for it which is cool. Differing opinions make the world go round. It always fascinates me that one man's trash is another man's treasure but for me this episode was the final nail in the coffin of my Doctor Who watching.
Don't get me wrong, there were flashes of wow that's great but mostly it was an eyeroll that could be heard around the world. I will caveat my opinion with I never was a big Doctor Who fan. I didn't even start watching it until a Buffy that I played met a Ten version of the Doctor and they got along really well. They wrote them so well that it made me want to give the show a try. I didn't realize that Ten wasn't the first of the new Doctors so I assumed the show started with him and I watched the Christmas show. It had killer trees. Yeah, that was another eyeroll heard round the world. So I gritted my teeth and went in search of the first NuWho. I fell instantly in love with Nine. He was MY Doctor and I loved that journey. I almost stopped watching with Martha but I slogged through it. God I really hated Martha until the end of her run when she finally grew a pair. Then there was Donna. I fell in love with the show all over again like I had with Nine. I wasn't and am not a fan of Steven Moffat. He has written some of the most brilliant episodes and some of the worst that I will never get those 45 minutes of my life back. Which meant when I heard that he was taking over the reins I was nervous. But I fell in love again, this time with 11, bbAmy Pond and Rory. So I slogged through a season I wasn't particularly fond of to watch Rory and 11. I stayed with it another season because I wanted to see where it was going and I trusted that Moff wouldn't go cliche and crap. Yeah......
River Song. Just like the Supernatural Jump the Shark episode I gave Moffat too much credit that the title wasn't really the title. Both instances I was majorly disappointed. Really? Husband/wife? Like it wasn't called when River first appeared and all of his assurances that River was much more than she seemed I would never be so obvious/cliche. Uh huh. So instead of usual wife we have TARDIS born part Time Lord hybrid sortof still not really sure what the hell she is, wife. Wow. That's a twist no one saw coming and not cliche at all.
Then the question that must not, can not, whole religions are based around holy shit DO NOT ANSWER of the universe is ..... the Doctor's name. Really? Really. So fanatics steal Amy and Rory's baby to make her an assassin to make absolutely sure that he doesn't answer the all important question of the AGES. The oldest question of time (not to mention that there were butt loads of older Gallifreyans once upon time) but THE MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION IN THE WHOLE UNIVERSE is Doctor Who? Wow. I'm underwhelmed. Mark my words it will turn out that his name is Rumplestilskin. But you'll have to tell me if it is, because that my friends was the very last Doctor Who I'm watching under Moffat.
I am an equal opportunity eye roller. Torchwood Miracle Day was the very last Torchwood I'll be watching, too.
I will stay in my little bubble of Nine and Rose adventures when life was good. :P
Peace Out.

Date: 2011-10-02 04:54 pm (UTC)I'm also as tired of Moffat rebooting the freaking universe as I was with Davis using Cybermen and Daleks all the time.

Date: 2011-10-02 06:36 pm (UTC)Now, my TW canon ended with Children of Earth. I will be stuck in a time loop after that like 4/22/11 5:02 :P

Date: 2011-10-03 03:50 am (UTC)I'm sort of hoping that 'Doctor Who' is more like 'Who the hell do you think you are' and not his name. Like who is the Doctor? Really?
Also, I thought River told the Doctor in the library his name? o.O
P.S. I want to know your reaction to Merlin.

Date: 2011-10-03 10:26 am (UTC)I loved Merlin. I hope they continue on this path and don't make me regret loving it like they did last season in regard to Morgana. :P Heh when you tweeted about Snape I about died laughing because I thought the same thing. My one gripe this season as it was last, if you're going to jump ahead a year, give us some flashbacks of what happened rather than everything "off camera" and we have to go with it. Like the alliance between Morgana and Arthur's uncle. WTH? I loved it but how did that even happen? Those kinds of things.

Date: 2011-10-03 02:41 pm (UTC)I kinda eye rolled at the evil uncle. I'm like 'Hello, Hamlet'. I feel the king might get poisoned at some point.
I like Morgana's new hairdo. I think Lancelot's (who will def be going darkside at some point) hair needs to grow out a bit >.>

Date: 2011-10-04 12:29 am (UTC)Heh it's probably wrong of me to think how fun it would be for a Morgana/Lancelot evil duo. I loved her hair in the episode. It was very pretty. Well more pretty, Katie has beautiful hair.
