Thoughts on End of Time part 2
Jan. 2nd, 2010 09:45 amWhy is it that RTD can't do two parters? Though I will admit that I enjoyed both parts of Journey's End, admittedly the first part was better than the second. This one, however, the first part was meh and frankly lame in parts that I didn't hold up much hope for part 2. I was sad that Ten's send off and the RTD era was going to be ending on a crap note. I humbly eat crow. Part 1 still was eh but part 2 was brilliant. Sure parts were stupid and I laughed in parts that I am very sure that RTD didn't mean for me to laugh. (Sad to say, Ten's sacrifice was one)
Timothy Dalton PWNS my soul and I am this close (holds up fingers really close) to picking him up as a pup.
Also, I LOVE LOVE Eleven. No seriously, I do. He captured my heart in the two seconds before the end with his reaction to the regeneration. I'm really looking forward to his take.
I thought they tied up everyone's story line perfectly and I was nervous about Billie's rumored return. I know some people will want to burn my Rose/Doctor shipping card for my opinion but I thought her story line came to a wonderful end with Journey's End and I didn't want them to just have her there for rating sake. I was pleased that she was there to say 'goodbye' to David and the way they did it was lovely. I'm also glad that Rose and Ten 2 didn't get a glimmer of what happened to the Doctor through a bond/connection/whatever. That makes really nice fanfic but I think it would have been cheesy to add to the cheese that was already in it. *cough cantina scene cough*
My only gripe was Martha and Mickey's ending. Don't get me wrong I like what they were doing and I can so see that but the marriage? Yeah, that seemed to be a nod to the audience as it came out of nowhere and I'm not a fan of those. When producers and writers start pandering to the audience, throwing them a bone if you will, it's just wrong. IMHO. I'll freely admit that that is Supernatural biased and part of my 'I'm still pissed they killed off Bella because fangirls rebelled of any female that wasn't Ellen in the show' thing.
Okay now to add my theory onto the pile of who the lady in white was. At first I thought it was a White Guardian. In fact, I was hoping that it was. Until she popped up in Gallifreyan garb and uttered the wonderful line of I was lost, too. I immediately thought of Romana. She was 'lost' in E-Space, though I don't consider her lost there since she freely stayed. In the novels, Romana was a prisoner of the Daleks before she became the President. Being a POW is definitely lost. I know it's also in the novels that it was her that was responsible for the Time War which led to the destruction of Gallifrey. That could be worked with what RTD did. That's my theory and I'm sticking with it.
Now, on to the Master. As always John Simm did a remarkable job with him portraying the madness and the genius. It was perfect. I know he's not gone forever as Ten said, what would I be without you. Every hero needs their Moriarty and the Master is great in that.
There you have it. I give EoT p2 two thumbs up. EoT together? Up and down.

I think my favorite scenes were all of those between Wilf and the Doctor and between the Master and the Doctor. Brilliant acting all around. And yay for the Doctor getting a chance to say goodbye to those he loves for a change!
Best line? "Worst. Rescue. EVAH!" *g*
